Nontraditional Last Name Stories

Megan Druss

Megan has her birth mother’s last name and her other mother’s as her middle name. She says what drove their decision was that her birth mother felt more attachment to her name and wanted it to be passed down. Megan really likes her name, both the way it sounds and the connection it provides with her family. She talks about having two mothers, and how their decision to pass down both names makes a statement that they are a family, saying “you’ll respect our love but you’ll also respect us under the law. This is our family. I think that’s the statement it makes.”
